Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of ZedLingua (the "Service"), operated by Zambian Cybersecurity Initiative Foundation ("we", "us"). By using the Service you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

1. What ZedLingua is

ZedLingua is a phrasebook and translation reference for Zambian languages, including Bemba, Nyanja, Tonga, Lozi, Kaonde, Lunda and Luvale. Content is compiled from our own work and from community contributions.

2. Accuracy and reliance

Translations may contain errors, omissions or regional variation. The Service is provided for general learning and reference only. Do not rely on it for medical, legal, emergency, financial or other critical communication without checking with a fluent speaker or qualified professional.

3. Contributions

• You may submit phrases and translations through the Contribute page.
• You confirm that your submission is your own work or that you have the right to share it, and that it is not unlawful, abusive, hateful or misleading.
• You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, perpetual licence to use, edit, display, store and distribute your contribution as part of the Service and related language-preservation work.
• All contributions are reviewed. We may approve, edit, reject or remove any contribution at our discretion.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to: attempt to access admin areas or other users' data without permission; interfere with or overload the Service; scrape or copy the dataset in bulk in a way that harms the Service; submit malicious code or spam; or use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

5. Intellectual property

The Service's design, code and compiled dataset belong to us or our licensors, except for contributions, which remain subject to Section 3. You may use the Service for personal, non-commercial learning. Any other reuse requires our written permission.

6. Availability

We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time.

7. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent permitted by the laws of Zambia, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service, including reliance on any translation. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

8. Privacy and cookies

Our handling of personal data is described in the Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.

9. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The date above shows the latest revision. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

10. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Zambia, and the courts of Zambia have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
